The lavender fields bloom from mid-June onwards, here in the Rhone Valley. As the fields are located higher, towards the East, the flowering comes later. After a week or two, the harvest begins, so the best time to see flowering lavender fields is between mid-June and mid-July, depending on when spring really starts.

All over the world, the Nougat of Montelimar is well known. Nougat was the basis of his economy in the middle of the 20th century.
Nowadays, there are still 12 factories, all of which are open to the public, with or without an appointment.

Truffles

South of Montélimar, on the slopes of Mont Ventoux, are truffles plantations. Here we produce the largest quantity in the world. Summer truffles and winter truffles. In winter, from mid-November to mid-March, there are Truffle Markets on Saturdays (Richerenches) and Sundays (Saint-Paul-Trois-Chateaux) In this city there is also the Truffle Museum, with an inter-active exhibition in 4 languages. In winter there are countless truffle events. Come and participate !!

Not far from here, in Tain l'Hermitage, a small town in the Rhone Valley, well known for its wines, we find "The City of Chocolate". This city is an initiative of Val Rhona. The Val Rhona chocolate is "the best in the world" says Val Rhona themselves, but no doubt it's very good!

Wines of the Rhône Vally

Montélimar lies in the very heart of the Rhone valley, that is famous for its wines. To the North we have the Hermitage, Saint Joseph, the Côte Rotie and Condrieu to name a few. To the East we have Die, famous for its sparkling wines, and to the South we are close to Vacqueyras, Gigondas, Chateauneuf-du-Pape and (need I say more...) Why not stay on a day in our Villa and discover the Rhône wines? We could help you organise one or more bespoke days with visits to the best winemakers of the region. Winemakers with a story. Whether they produce their wines the organic- or the classic way, each visit is different, is interesting and will help you understand and appreciate the Rhone wines better. Needless to say that you will be able to buy the wines of your choice directly from the producers as well...... You will be picked up at our Villa in the morning, have a most interesting day sampling wines, and be brought back onto our doorstep in the late afternoon. You will then enjoy your dinner in one of the 35 restaurants in the centre of Montélimar at walking distance. If you are interested in such a day, please let us know soonest?
